Dr. Jeff Landis – Senior Pastor

 

 

 

 

Pastor Jeff Landis has been the pastor of Covenant since 1986. Born into a Christian family in Indiana, Jeff moved to California when he was a teenager and met his wife Donna in high school. After graduating from Reformed Bible College with a BRE, Pastor Landis continued his education at Westminster Seminary in California earning both MAR and M-Div degrees. He has recently completed his Doctor of Ministry at Reformed Theological Seminary.

 

As senior pastor at Covenant, Jeff’s shepherding responsibilities include preaching and teaching, working with the Session to set the direction of the congregation, and working with the church staff on a daily basis. Pastor Landis also serves on the presbytery’s Home Missions Committee and the denomination’s Committee on Home Missions and Church Extension. A former radio announcer and producer, Jeff’s messages can be heard on the weekly radio program Wisdom for Living. Jeff and Donna have two college age sons, Ben and Joel.

Brett Chase - Elder

Randy Franklin – Elder

 

 

Randy is employed by Cisco Systems as a financial controller in their service organization. Originally from Seattle, Randy moved to San Jose when he was in grade school and has been a part of the Covenant OPC family since 1968. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, working around the house and reading – especially history. Randy’s wife Nancy is a teacher at Valley Christian and they have two adult daughters.

Jim Huizinga - Elder

 

 

 

 

Golf, financial planning, genealogy, attending family events, and gold dredging with his sons are a few of Jim's favorite activities. He and his wife, Audrey, have two sons, three grandsons and two granddaughters. An aerospace engineer now retired from Lockheed, Jim enjoys classical and American folk music, Civil War history books, and mystery novels (particularly Agatha Christie). One of Jim’s favorite passages is Romans 8:28, 29. "It truly summarizes God’s promises, steps in the process of salvation, and God’s unfathomable love."

Don Jamieson - Elder

 

 

 

 

A retired school principal, Don is a self-employed handyman, a member of our presbytery’s credentials committee, and performs the duties of clerk of the presbytery. Don and his wife, Beverly, have six children, many grandchildren, and an ever growing number of great-grandchildren. Don enjoys gardening and reading and loves traveling and leading historical tours in the British Isles. One of Don’s favorite passages is Ephesians 2:8, 9. "It demonstrates the necessity of faith, that faith is a gift, and that good works follow."

Rob Starke – Elder

 

 

 

A graduate of Westminster Seminary in California, Rob Starke, is a teacher at The King’s Academy in Sunnyvale. In addition to teaching, he coaches their growing football team, leads yearly student trips to England and Mexico and is much loved by his students. Rob and his wife, Jan, have two college-age children. In his spare time he remodels his house and does extreme make-overs on his vehicles.

John Bost – Deacon

 

 

 

 

 

A Senior Production Planner at PerkinElmer Optoelectronics in Fremont, John enjoys spending time with his family. Many of their family activities revolve around a shared love of baseball and softball. John and his wife Gaye have five children and love names that begin with the letter ‘A’ -especially, Allyssa, Alex, Ashley, Allison and Andrew.

 

 

Andrew Buckingham - Deacon

 

 

Andrew is the treasurer for Covenant and a CPA. He is currently employed as a corporate accountant in San Jose. Snow skiing, strategy board games (such as Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and RISK to name a few), and slowly reading a good book rank as some of his favorite pastimes. Andrew and his wife Heather are blessed with two daughters, Ella and Megan. One of Andrew's favorite passages is Psalm 116. "The psalmist knew who to turn to in times of need. Jesus is the one that truly has delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from stumbling that I may walk with Him at all times and forever more. Praise the Lord!"

Dave Hill - Deacon

 

 

A middle school teacher since 1991, Dave is currently teaching algebra to eighth graders at Dartmouth Middle School. At Dartmouth, Dave met his wife Kimberly while he was chaperoning a Valentine's Day dance. In addition to his teaching duties, Dave leads a group of over a hundred students every year on a week long study tour of Washington D. C. Dave has been attending Covenant since 1997. In his spare time Dave loves to read and follow his beloved Pittsburg Steelers. His greates passion, however, is spending time with his daughters Kristin and Kenzie.

Dan Sorenson - Deacon

 

 

 

Working nights and early mornings, Dan is a Field Manager and Scheduler with Allied Barton Security Services. He enjoys a variety of interests including reading and studying - history, theology, the Bible, and Latin -- as well as more physical pursuits such as running, cycling, and playing with his children. Dan and his wife Sommer home school their four children, Fiona, Brenna, Liam, and Rowan. Dan makes time in his busy life for playing classical music on the piano, and admits to enjoying Star Wars! 

Steve Trigero – Deacon

 

 

 

When he’s not busy doing diaconal work for Covenant, Steve is employed as a software engineer by Xicom Technology. In his limited spare time he enjoys gardening and playing video games in between reading history, theology and mystery/spy novels. Steve can be found as the “man behind the scenes” at most of Covenant’s functions. Steve and his wife Melissa have attended Covenant since 1998. He is the father of five children.
